Our show about Curling reflects our insights and observations about our favourite game, the athletes and their stories during the biggest competitions.

(The Front Ender’s Union approves)

On an episode which discusses the final Grand Slam event of the season—The Masters—it’s another Masters championship that has the Girls’ attention.

That’s right … episode 8 of season 9 begins with yet another story of curling victory on the ice, this time for G2!

Mary takes us through her all-star squad’s victory while Lori tells us of her latest trials in the mixed doubles discipline.

Next up is the aforementioned Slam event, and all the various storylines—from Ross Whyte making the men’s final (and a reminder of his nude appearance in the Men Of Curling calendar) to Rachel Homan continuing to breathe fire, plus the finale of Italy’s remarkable Team Retornaz.

This week’s Hot Topic is fascinating as on-ice penalties are being considered for future three-player teams!

Next up is the 2G breakdown of Ben Hebert’s latest Sheet Show, and it was certainly memorable. That is immediately followed by Team Bottcher’s Christmas singalong, a World Junior B recap and word from the Nunavut playdowns.

Enjoy the episode, happy holidays and stay safe!

Lori and Mary return with episode 7 of season 9.

In this instalment, the 2 Girls discuss “lean” curling topics, the Canadian Seniors, Tour events and results, a look ahead to Canadian provincial championships, Emma going exclusive, Mary’s Masters and the Team Carruthers lineup change.

Plus “Word of the Year”!

Lori and Mary are back with episode 6 of season 9 and a smorgasbord of curling talk.

First up is a recent catch-up chat with Lori running into some Newfoundland curling stars in Ontario, and Mary revealing the new Super Team she is a member of. She’s more than a member, actually; she’s throwing skip stones!

Event discussion then takes place with the weekend’s European Championships and the Canadian Curling Club Championships, followed by fresh news that a new USA vs Canada “North American” championship has been created for recreational curlers!

Next up are discussions over the Olympic road through Nova Scotia, and the reveal that competitors did in fact approach Sportsnet about not being consulted on Grand Slam format changes. Turns out the players weren’t happy, and changes have just been announced.

What’s left? Various fun and silliness over the Beckham Dance (The Girls want to recruit Jennifer Jones and Brent Laing), and the Curling Legends upload of an old 1997 STOH match featuring our “Baby Girls”!

The 2 Girls are back.

The podcast superstars are back in town for episode 5 of season 9 after G1’s adventures in Swift Current produced a bronze medal for Ontario.

The Girls thoroughly break down the Canadian Mixed championship before tackling the controversial Pan Continetal Championships in Kelowna.

Then it’s on to Pictou, N.S. to discuss all things Grand Slam.

There’s even some David Beckham in there.

*EMERGENCY POD*

*EMERGENCY POD*

*EMERGENCY POD*

In this special curling podcast episode, do the 2 Girls talk about the Tour Challenge Slam? Yes. Do they talk about the world mixed? Yes. Do they talk about the upcoming Pan Continental championships? Yes.

Do they talk about the Golden Bachelor? Of course.

But the real reason The Girls are talking this week at all is Tim March, who appears as Mr. March in the 2024 Men of Curling Fundraising Calendar. If you missed the previous episode with the calendar unboxing, go back and listen … and then feast your ears (and eyes) on the 2G calendar frenzy part II.

Oh wow, Mr. March!

Men of Curling Unboxed!

OMGOMGOMG.

The 2 Girls and a Game Curling Podcast is back and … it’s juicy.

Lori and G3—Daryell Nowlan!—start with an update on Daryell’s coaching and playing situation, which is followed by Headline News items.

This includes a segment on the new Player’s Tour cashspiel hosted in Lori’s town.

Then, it’s the annual early Halloween treat as Lori and Mary unbox the brand new 2024 Men of Curling Fundraising Calendar, and rant and rave about what’s inside.

(Pro tip: watch your volume.)

Before recording this segment, The Girls went on a social media sabbatical and managed to avoid hearing the lineup announcement. What you hear is fully authentic—exactly what fans now expect from these veteran curling podcasters.

As usual, a few amusing bloopers conclude the episode.

2 Girls and a Game: The PointsBet

Lori and Mary return from a weekend of golf and curling – the latter didn’t involve them playing (for once) but rather saw them watching and conducting interviews at Curling Canada’s new event jewel, the PointsBet Invitational.

The subjects range far and wide – the poor GTA crowds; G1’s U18 teams at ice level with the stars; the women’s and men’s championship finals; Wonder Woman Rachel Homan (again); how can Team Dunstone take that final step to gold; the upsets; questions for TSN (why do they do the things they do); curling’s Taylor Swift solution; improvements to the event; Team McEwen and more.

There are three athlete interviews interspersed with the usual 2G commentary - Christina Black, Matt Hall and Greg Balsdon.

Finally, The Girls bid farewell to a popular curling star.

Following a surprise summer episode, the 2 Girls are back with a breaking news podcast episode concerning Brier champion Darren Moulding.

The man with seven Brier appearances (four in the championship final) and three Grand Slam titles speaks exclusively with Lori and Mary about his decision, which comes deep into the 2023 off-season.

An ice technician who crafted a decorated playing career on the ice—Moulding also won the 2014 Canadian Mixed title—the 40-year-old isn’t shy about describing the last few years of competitive curling turmoil.

This is the 21st episode of the eighth season of the world’s most popular curling podcast. As usual, colourful images have been embedded in the media player to enhance your podcast experience.

In their latest podcast episode, Lori, Mary and G3 Daryell Nowlan gather for a riotous look at the last few weeks of the rapidly concluding 2023 curling season.

Episode 19 of season 8 begins with some Ontario curling madness, as both Mary and Lori finish the season with championship trophies.

The panel then disseminates the major event format and qualification announcements made by Curling Canada, affecting championships, Olympic Trials qualifying, athlete residency rules and more.

Then it’s on to storylines surrounding the Players Championship Grand Slam, team lineup changes, the World Mixed Doubles championship and more.

2 Girls and a Game: Mega Brier Review

Lori and Mary return with episode 16 of season 8—a true Brier special.

That’s what happens when both Girls travel to London for the Canadian men’s championship, both together and separately in the same week (and two weekends).

In a departure from the usual 2G format, there are plenty of on-site interviews included in this show. And if you listen at thecurlingnews.com, you'll see vibrant Brier images—from The Curling News photographer Anil Mungal—that have been embedded in the media player to enhance your podcast experience.

So Much For Our Week Off

The 2 Girls tried to skip a week—and failed, as there’s just too much curling to discuss.

Lori and Mary talk about the Saskatchewan Tankard, the pools for the Canadian women’s championship, the public relations nightmare Curling Canada endured over a pregnancy rule, residency requirements, Canada’s surprise hiring of Scotland’s David Murdoch, Jamie Koe returns to the Brier, the Joanne Courtney TSN announcement and so much more.

Girl 2 rejoins Girl 1 for episode 12 of season 8.

There’s Something About Mary as G2 is back from a grind of a week commentating for the Ontario STOH and Tankard provincial championships. She dishes about the host town, the venue, the event, the people, and her commentary colleagues, plus the sights, sounds and observations from a great seat in the house.

The Girls also discuss the no-tick rule before dissecting the results in Port Elgin, which are followed by mention of a real-life flashback: a COVID case, which prompted a competing team to withdraw.

Then it’s on to the plethora of other provincial championship results that made this past week and weekend one of the most attractive for those savvy enough to watch livestreams via the internet.

Girl 1 welcomes “Girl 3” for episode 11 of season 8 … as amazing guest host Daryell Nowlan returns.

(Girl 2 is busy commenting for the Ontario STOH/Tankard provincial livestream coverage.)

Lori and Daryell waste no time in catching up, and talk about Team Andrea Kelly’s big provincial STOH win in New Brunswick. This leads to a discussion between two coaches (Lori described her U18 provincial coaching efforts in episode 10) as well as the difference between winning a provincial title and cashspiels on the World Curling Tour.

The Alberta women’s provincial championship was fully discussed, as both hosts were thrilled with the stunning finish on the last stone of the championship final. Faithful listeners are encouraged to head to The Curling News website (https://www.si.com/curling/2-girls-and-a-game) to watch the shot in the embedded media player as you listen!

Our hosts then barrel through a variety of topics—the FISU World University shootout, U18s, Curling Canada’s hints that big changes are coming, and a new pregnancy addendum in Canada’s championship player guide (!). Naturally, there has to be predictions for the remaining provincial men’s and women’s winners.

The Girls are back, and after some initial catching up, Lori and Mary are off into the 2023 world of curling podcasts.

First up is a retrospective look at some of the biggest curling stories of 2022. We agree with Lori when she is shocked to realize the Beijing Olympics were held just a few months ago—it does feel like many years ago!

Then comes a look at current curling stories and discussion topics, including the results from a recent 2 Girls and a Game online poll.

The 2 Girls conclude with a predictive look at the fields for Canada’s upcoming STOH and Tankard provincial championships.
